New definition of customer relationships due to the “energy change”
In the coming decades, Germany’s energy industry will be facing drastic structural changes. Decisive factor for future development of the industry, which has around 200,000 employees in Germany and generates around EUR65bn p.a., is the still controversial “energy change”.
Germany’s state-prescribed conversion of energy production is accompanied by massive technological achievements along the entire value chain of energy producers. In addition, legislation and a significantly modified regulatory framework require higher levels of transparency and compliance.
At the same time, customer awareness increases in an unprecedented manner. Customers, who are finally executing the “energy change” with higher invoices, start questioning their decisions with regard to energy supplier they have contracted. Due to the internet’s price transparency and critical analyses of press and consumer advocates, market participants of the Utilities sector have to rethink their brand positioning and sales strategy fundamentally.
